On a long drive home
How she rests her bones

They crawl to bed
Whispers of windows
A car going fast
The static of that radio
Headlights flash
The sun did creep
Not so quietly as me
Her eyes they don’t know sleep

Then the tea kettle whistles
Keys clash, the front door’s closin’
Lullabies, they’re for dreamers
And not just the night
It’s the little choices we make
In the long parade of the day
So I wake to my coffee at noon
A cold day in a warm red room
