Making Castles
When I heard about the wedding, I was excited;
At least that’s what I said.
I can’t say I really cared much. That’s the whole truth,
But it’s not what I said.
I took the trip down.
Got my lady. I got some clothes.
Drove the car right to your front door.
We stayed up to late on the couch, that’s where I lied
When I said I didn’t mind.
Now I’m sitting in the front row. I’ve got my eyes closed.
I hope that you don’t mind.
I took the trip down.
Got my lady. I got some clothes.
Drove the car right to your front door.
On my way home, when I’m finally alone, I’ll make castles all my own.
I took the trip down.
Got my lady. I got some clothes.
Drove the car right to your front door.

Little Choices
On a long drive home
How she rests her bones
In sleep and in dreams
Hear her footsteps
They crawl to bed
Whispers of windows
A car going fast
The static of that radio
Headlights flash
The sun did creep
Not so quietly as me
Her eyes they don’t know sleep
She said “I’ve been lookin’ for you all night”
Then the tea kettle whistles
Keys clash, the front door’s closin’
Lullabies, they’re for dreamers
And not just the night
It’s the little choices we make
In the long parade of the day
So I wake to my coffee at noon
A cold day in a warm red room
This is the city
I’ll see it through

Refuge
Moving restless, I've got my mind made up on everything
Winter melts, it’s breezes they blow into the spring
Blowing through limb's leaves and backwards to the sea
Suddenly they reveal there’s a house up in the trees
Up in the trees
Rooftops at my feet
Climb up to the top and sit down for a spell
Rain starts pouring up, you know, some people don't never tell
Pass the ladder down I made from rope and twine
If you climbed right up, I swear I would not mind
No I would not mind
Up my ladder you will climb
As the city floods, you know those rivers turn back into streets
Roots go pulling up and there's rooftops at my feet
No I would not mind
Up my ladder you will climb
Don't you now worry, my baby
We're safe up here through the day
Until the angels they come
And fly our souls away
