Moving restless, I've got my mind made up on everything
Winter melts, it’s breezes they blow into the spring
Blowing through limb's leaves and backwards to the sea
Suddenly they reveal there’s a house up in the trees
Up in the trees
Rooftops at my feet
Climb up to the top and sit down for a spell
Rain starts pouring up, you know, some people don't never tell
Pass the ladder down I made from rope and twine
If you climbed right up, I swear I would not mind
No I would not mind
Up my ladder you will climb
As the city floods, you know those rivers turn back into streets
Roots go pulling up and there's rooftops at my feet
No I would not mind
Up my ladder you will climb

We're safe up here through the day
Until the angels they come

In 2008, we headed to Tony Mascara's studio, The Audio Lab, in south Jersey to record a few songs to a beautiful, 2-inch tape reel over a short weekend.
The title track, "Making Castles", is a bouncy, poppy song I'd written earlier that year. Usually outside my wheelhouse, the band was quick to find the pocket for this one, led by Carl Cheeseman's driving electric guitar.
"Little Choices" is written and arranged by Carl. He shared the lyrics and music with me and asked if I'd sing it. I slowly fell in love with it. Over time, I finally felt like I was doing his lyrics some justice. I was glad he had the wherewithal to suggest we tackle it in the studio.
"Refuge" came to life when Carl took a song called "The Flood," with it's simple 3-chord progression, and rearranged it into high gear, including a portion of each verse in 11/12. He has a real knack for adding a little more movement to things rhythmically.
After the weekend was through, those songs sat on that same reel for eleven years before being re-discovered, mixed, and mastered back at The Audio Lab. I hope you enjoy them!
